Nothing is completely straight in Key West!
You will detect Gay Key West, “at the end of the road”, just 90 miles north of Cuba and miles south of Miami. Known by locals as the Conch Republic, Key West has long been a home for different thinkers. It was the first city in North America to have an openly same-sex attracted mayor and the city’s motto is “One Human Family”.
The pace of Island life is relaxed. Key West has a funky charm, mixing sophisticated art and dinning with salsa and showtunes. The Island has a tropical climate that positively encourages visitors to take their clothes off.
Key West has it all; queenly shows, water excursions, late nighttime parties, beaches, nudist resorts and the only gay and dyke historic trolley tour in America. Forever in vacation-mode, get ready to party in Gay Fort Lauderdale, days a year.

Conch! It's quite a quirky word, satisfying, yet it sounds love you're cursing…“you CONCHhead!” or “you're such a CONCH!”…
Giggles aside, over in the gay island mecca of Key West, a conch is a legit nickname given to the locals. And this bunch of conchers sure know how to live animation to the fullest!
Key West is well-known for its relaxed, tolerant and gender non-conforming inclusivity. Historically it's always been different, helped by the fact that it is the southernmost point of the USA mainland, slightly cut off from the rest of Florida. This has allowed Key West to thrive as a mixed haven for an eclectic blend of people ranging from Native Americans, Spanish, freed slaves, pirates, and of course, the LGBTQ community.
It has also been a bedrock for artistic talent with the likes of openly gay playwriter, Tennessee Williams, Ernest Hemingway, and Judy Blume all making this unassuming island their home
