Gay Trek: Star Trek&#;s Long Journey To LGBT+ Inclusiveness

The monitoring article was written by my partner JA Fludd, my go-to for all things Trek.

In the Deep Space Nine episode “Rejoined,” Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) is reunited with a
former treasure, a Trill symbiont who now lives in a female host (Susanna Thompson, later the
Queen of the Borg on Voyager). The symbionts’ love is blind to the bodies they are
inhabiting, and in one scene the two hosts smooch. An outraged viewer called Star Trek and

The Production Assistant who took the call replied, “Let me ask you a question. Would you
have been okay if one of the women had shot the other to death with a phaser and the kids
watched that?” The aggrieved man said, “Yes, of course.” The Production Assistant then
said, “Well, maybe you’d improve think about who it is that is ruining your kids.”

Yet, in the accompanying the series spoke out against the preconceptions and prejudices of the age on many occasions. Sometimes by breaking taboos favor with Uhura's and Kirk's interracial kiss in TOS: "Plato's Stepchildren" - although that kiss was forced. A certain degree of racism and sexism still exists in today's population and occasionally shows up in TV programs.
