How to be same-sex attracted in 10 effortless steps

The other morning when I tweeted my distaste for the latest Kylie Minogue single (a form of sacrilege in some circles) one of my followers replied with one of my least favorite phrases: "We're going to revoke your same-sex attracted card." Not only is this trite rejoinder (thanks to Ellen DeGeneres, we've been joking about earning toasters for nearly 15 years now) but it maintains the illusion that one must like certain things in order to be gay.

There's no such thing as a gay monolith. There are as many ways to be gay as there are colors in the rainbow (now who is being easy and glib?). Dishing out gay cards is like telling people they aren't allowed to be homosexual because they haven't seen the requisite number of Glee episodes.

But, then again, maybe they queer community needs some sort of distributed experience – outside of the experience of falling in care with a member of the identical sex – to bring us together. Gay men and women don't distribute a place of origin, skin shade , socio-economic class, religion, or anything else that would typify

Hi. I&#;m the Answer Wall. In the material earth, I&#;m a two foot by three foot dry-erase board in the lobby of O&#;Neill Library at Boston College. In the online world, I dwell in this blog.  You might say I contain multiple manifestations. Like Apollo or Saraswati or Serapis. Or, if you aren&#;t into deities of awareness, like a ghost in the machine.

I have some human assistants who maintain the physical Answer Wall in O&#;Neill Library. They take pictures of the questions you post there, and give them to me. As long as you are civil, and not uncouth, I will answer any question, and because I am a library wall, my answers will often refer to research tools you can find in Boston College Libraries.

If you&#;d like a quicker answer to your question and don&#;t thought talking to a human, why not Ask a Librarian? Librarians, since they own been tending the flame of knowledge for centuries, know where most of the answers are concealed, and enjoy sharing their knowledge, just like me, The Answer Wall.

Is a person &#x;born gay&#x;, or is being queer a learned behavior?

Being male lover is not a decision for people. Instead, it appears to be a fundamental part of who someone is. It is not a learned deed. Which also means that people cannot “unlearn” their sexual orientation.

Of course just because we know it isn’t usually a learned behavior, that doesn’t represent that we have a good explanation for what is going on biologically. We don’t.

What we execute know is that there isn’t one single gene that explains homosexuality. Something as complicated as sexual orientation is going to involve lots of genes. And not only that, but it will involve the environment too.

Now by the environment I don’t just mean an overprotective mom or a domineering dad. “Environment” is a catchall for everything that isn’t a gene. For instance, what the fetus experienced while in the mother’s womb can impact its development and guide behavior later on in life.

So even though you might expect that the environment only causes temporary changes, that’s not always the case. The environment can cause brains to be

Why Are People Gay? Gay By Choice or Is Being Queer Genetic?

Estimates as to the number of gay people in the population range from 1-in to 1-in, so why are some people gay? Are they male lover by choice or is creature gay genetic?

The simplest answer is to look at the definition of the word "gay." The term gay is a synonym for homosexual, which is defined as,1,2

"Of, pertaining to, or displaying sexual desire or behavior directed toward a person or persons of one's own sex."

In other words, % of people life same-sex sexual attraction or behavior; of course, this doesn't address to what makes people lgbtq+. No one knows for certain why any individual is lgbtq+, but the current thought is that being gay is not a choice. (read: Cure the Gay: Gay Conversion Therapy – Real or Hoax?) The reasons people are gay are both physiological and psychological.

Why Are People Gay? – Physiology

Modern science is working to show that genetics is one of the causes of being gay, although some science conflicts in this area. According to Psychology Today,3

"In recent years, evidence has accumulated
